Welcoming the Autumnal Equinox

Autumn sunflower in my garden.

As we approach the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, we are reminded of the natural cycle of life that surrounds us as we stand at this pivotal point in the wheel of the year. This is a time of balance, where day and night are equal, and signals a moment of transition. The gentle rustling of leaves and the crispness in the air serve as a gentle reminder to pause, to take a deep breath, and to welcome the changing of the seasons. As the warmth of summer fades away, we enter a time of rest, introspection, and reflection. This is a time of deep gratitude and joyful celebration as we give thanks for the abundance that has graced our lives and celebrate the bountiful harvest of the fruits of our efforts over the last year. The changing colors of the leaves and the cool breeze inspire us to embrace the beauty of transformation as Earth begins her descent into the dark time of the year.

This year, in our garden, we gave half of the garden a makeover, basically starting from scratch. We evened out the ground and installed stock tanks for raised beds. Having a garden allows me to witness the cycles of growth and death, as well as the changing of the seasons. We're bringing in the last of our harvest to enjoy fresh, preserve for the winter months ahead, and to share with loved ones. As the nights get colder and the Sun's angle shifts lower in the sky, the garden is beginning to die back, signaling that it's time to put the garden to bed for winter.

As we celebrate the Autumnal Equinox, we're filled with gratitude for our garden and are already making plans for next year's planting. It's a beautiful reminder that our projects have seasons of growth and rest, just like the garden. This season invites us all to embrace gratitude for our harvest and abundance and reflect on the cycles of life and transformation. Take this opportunity to nurture your inner garden, rest, and dream a new dream for the projects that lie ahead.

Just as the leaves fall from the trees, we, too, can let go of what no longer serves us, making room for the next cycle of our lives. By doing so, we create space to dream new dreams in the quiet darkness of winter. We can embrace change with open arms, knowing that every season has its own unique beauty in Nature and in our lives. As we move through this season of transition, remember to stay grounded and centered. Take the time to connect with Nature and to appreciate the simple pleasures that bring us joy. In doing so, we can find peace, balance, and inspiration to carry us through the coming months.

In this season of the Autumnal Equinox, we find ourselves drawn to the wisdom of Nature, the changing leaves, and the embrace of transition. It is a time when we honor the cycle of life and death, and in this spirit, I'm delighted to share with you a piece of mixed media digital art titled "Crone Time."

"Crone Time" explores the archetype of the Crone as we move into the Crone's time of the year. She is a symbol of profound wisdom, guidance, and the beauty of aging. As the leaves begin to turn to shades of orange and brown, we are reminded of the natural ebb and flow of existence.

In this artwork, the Crone is adorned with a black shirt adorned with stars, symbolizing the vastness of knowledge and the mysteries of the universe. Her crown of leaves connects her to the wisdom of Nature and the Earth itself.

Notice the subtle presence of gold accents throughout the image, representing the invaluable treasures of information, stories, and the wisdom that the Crone imparts. She encourages us to find our authentic voice, empowering us to speak up not only for ourselves but also for others and the Earth we call home.

The Crone teaches us the art of cleverness and reminds us to embrace moments of joy, even in the face of life's challenges. Her presence reminds us to call our power back to ourselves, face adversity with courage, and trust in our inner strength and wisdom.

As we enter this season of transition, may "Crone Time" inspire you to embrace the wisdom within, honor the changing seasons of your life, and find empowerment in the beauty of transformation.

Autumnal Equinox Simmer Pot Recipe

As we celebrate the Autumnal Equinox and welcome the changing of the seasons, what better way to embrace the cozy, aromatic essence of fall than with an Autumnal Equinox simmer pot? This delightful recipe will fill your home with the scents of the season and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. It's not only a treat for your senses but also a beautiful way to connect with the natural world around us.

Ingredients:

  • 1 or 2 sliced apples (sliced to reveal the star shape of the seeds inside)

  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks

  • 2 tablespoons allspice

  • 2 tablespoons whole cloves

  • 2 tablespoons star anise

Instructions:

  1. Begin by slicing the apples to showcase the star shape of the seeds inside. These carefully prepared slices will release their delightful scents and add visual beauty to your simmer pot.

  2. Place all the ingredients into a small saucepan or a simmer pot. The combination of orange, apple, cinnamon sticks, allspice, and cloves will create a harmonious blend of autumnal fragrances.

  3. Add enough water to cover the ingredients in your pot, ensuring that there's room for it to simmer without overflowing.

  4. Place the pot on your stovetop over low heat. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.

  5. Keep a watchful eye on the pot, ensuring the water doesn't evaporate completely. You can add more water as needed to keep the pot from drying out.

  6. As the simmer pot warms, the scents of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and the fruity notes of orange and apple will fill your home with the comforting aroma of fall.

  7. Enjoy the soothing and heartwarming fragrance as you embrace the changing seasons and the beauty of the Autumnal Equinox.

Remember to never leave your simmer pot unattended while it's on the stovetop, and be sure to check it periodically to maintain the perfect aromatic balance. This simmer pot is a natural way to scent your home and a lovely ritual to connect with the spirit of the season.

Whether celebrating the Autumnal Equinox or finding solace in the shifting rhythms of Nature, may this time of balance and transition bring moments of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration.
